The Bitola 10-Kilometer Race - TRCHAJ BE! marks the grand finale of an exhilarating trio of races held over three consecutive weekends in Macedonia. From the outset, it’s clear that Run BE stands out as the best of the bunch in every conceivable way—from flawless organization and a thoughtful starter package to breathtaking scenery, engaging entertainment along the route, and the vibrant atmosphere created by enthusiastic supporters. The race kicks off and concludes in the picturesque city park near the iconic Clock Tower, a beloved symbol of Bitola. Nestled in the heart of the city, the Tower is surrounded by stunning sights, including the “St. Dimitrija” Church and the Yeni Mosque, situated on what was once the bustling Pekmez-Pazar. This park serves as a popular gathering spot for locals and tourists alike, especially during festive occasions like Christmas Eve, when residents gather to light candles for health. Before the race begins, participants can enjoy an energizing warm-up program, complete with lively and humorous presenters. Many sponsor booths offer delightful refreshments, including chocolate milk, energy gels, and water, ensuring everyone is well-prepared. The circular race route spans 10 kilometers without repeating, adding an element of excitement. It’s relatively manageable and takes runners alongside the scenic Dragor River towards the Dovledžik neighborhood. Along the way, competitors are treated to fantastic live music from local bands and DJs, enhancing the festive atmosphere. As runners approach the city hall, they are welcomed by the local fire department, which provides refreshments directly from its fire truck —a unique touch that adds to the experience. The last 700-800 meters are particularly captivating as runners make their way down Shirok Sokak, Bitola's iconic street. Here, they are cheered on by locals enjoying the vibrant café scene, creating a thrilling finish. This street showcases some of the oldest architectural gems in the Balkans, with beautifully preserved typical Turkish houses and elegant villas that reflect the city’s rich history. At the end of Shirok Sokak lies the Mladost Sports Hall, leading participants to a spacious flower park filled with tree-lined avenues that lead towards Tumbe Kafe Stadium and the zoo. As runners navigate Shirok Sokak, it's impossible to miss the enchanting balconies of Bitola’s homes. Each balcony tells its own story—of the past, the residents who once lived there, and the spirit of the city. The neoclassical façades, adorned with wrought iron and intricate details, harken back to a time when Bitola thrived as a hub of trade and diplomacy, a reminder of the affluent merchants and consuls who once overlooked daily life from those very balconies. After crossing the finish line, participants can unwind and stretch in the park beneath the city clock. To wrap up this remarkable race experience, I highly recommend savoring delicious pasta at one of the charming restaurants on Shirok Sokak, followed by a refreshing coffee at one of the inviting cafés lining the street. The Bitola 10-Kilometer Race is a splendid way to conclude three weekends of racing, perfectly encapsulating the transition from summer to autumn in Macedonia!
